Movement and gesture are purely temporal. Anna Kostreva’s work “Measurements without Numbers”, an installation and performance, attempts to solidify these very vectors of human energy. A spool of yarn, her tool for measurement, is abundant in length and full of potential as a raw material waiting to be used. Yarn is also soft and amenable to the living body. Kostreva is attracted to its linear form, flexibility and light capturing color. The lines she traces with yarn do not only capture the dimension and proportion of the human body, but also notate the relationship of the body to space.
